Amy Bernard – Cast Member Exposé
August 25, 2008

We are kicking off a series on our blog, where we highlight the incredible actors and actresses who have signed up to work with us. The first one up is Amy Bernard (coincidentally, she plays a character named “Amy” in Coffka). She is a VERY talented actress and is cute as a button. We could not have found anyone better for the part!

Amy is a recent graduate of Whitworth University, where she received a B.A. in both Theatre and Philosophy. At Whitworth, Amy was a part of many theatrical productions, among which include Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance, and Bertolt Brecht’s Antigone. She also enjoyed being a member of Whitworth’s Improv Troupe Cool Whip.

Amy is talented both on stage and off. Recently, Amy’s passions have directed her to work in the field of international justice. She has spent the last year at Whitworth University writing policy papers to help end the genocide in Darfur. Currently, she has a deferred admittance into law school and will be attending in the Fall of 2009. Until then, she will be pursuing acting, kicking off her film career with Coffka, her first feature-length. She is thrilled to be contributing to this incredible project, and so are we!

Your Coffka Cast Has Been Selected
August 21, 2008

It was a truly amazing process. The Coffka team walked into an audition room with a stack of papers and a day full of appointments and walked out with a complete cast. We have to admit that we were completely stunned by the quality and professionalism of every actor / actress that auditioned on Saturday and Sunday. Nearly 300 applicants were narrowed down to 30 and now 10 – what a month.

Auditions are always a surreal experience because the director and producer get to see words turned into life and breath by the actor. Characters that previously existed only in the mind of the author turn into flesh and blood right in front of their eyes. It is always fun to see the conversion of a person with a life and personality completely separate from the role, transform into the character and thoroughly make the role their own – no one else can even compete. In popular lingo – “That guy owned (pwned) that character.”  We saw it again and again at the audition.

We do have to admit that the quality and professionalism of each candidate made decision making quite difficult. The entire team debated over which actor/actress to use with great vigor. Throughout the process, we felt like we were picking between more than one outstanding option. It was not an easy process… However, each person is PERFECT for the role. We did not have to compromise in any way. We are still a little stunned.

Each cast member has been notified. The Coffka Team went the extra mile and contacted each person who did not make the final cut. They were all too good to just leave them hanging and we would love to work with some of them in the future.

You now have your cast. It is going to be very fun working with all of these professionals. We are looking forward to introducing them to you and we can’t wait for the first shoot on September 13!

We would like to personally thank the Seattle Film Institute for their hospitality.

Outstanding Auditions
August 18, 2008

The auditions on Saturday and Sunday were simply amazing. We would like to thank every person who took time out of their busy schedule to come to the Seattle Film Institute and audition on Saturday morning. The entire Coffka team was impressed by your professionalism and the quality of every single actor or actress. We held an alternate audition on Sunday night at the Viking for a handful who could not attend on Saturday. Attendance was amazing. Out of nearly 300 applicants we invited 30 to audition and we had 26 attend. Not bad.

The Coffka team will be reviewing all of the applicants again today to see who the best fit is. After a couple days we already have a good idea of who each character is shaping up to be. This is a very exciting process. We literally got to see 9 months worth of hard work, character formation, and script revision come to life when the talented actors/actresses ran through their lines, simply amazing.

One of the Coffka team members will be calling each applicant this week to let them know if they made the final cut or not. We can honestly say that we wish we could work with everyone who showed up to audition. Everyone was wonderful. We want to call everyone personally to thank them for their time and effort. We cannot wait to introduce everyone to the Coffka cast!

Audition Saturday The 16th
August 15, 2008

The lines have been sent out, times disseminated, and confirmation numbers received. Everyone has been contacted. If you have not been contacted feel free to email us. Someone from the team has spoken to or corresponded with every person.

Part of the Coffka Team will be there. Glenn the director, Matthew the producer and a handful of staff members to make sure that the entire process goes smoothly. They tell me that they are looking forward to meeting everyone. They are confident that the perfect person is out there for each part.

The Seattle Film Institute is hosting the event. We will be meeting in the Main Room. It looks like a house. The entrance will be through the back door (the front door will be locked). Signs will be posted.

Seattle Film Institute – 8a-Noon

A couple people sent in emails asking if they should change their appearance at all for the parts or be concerned about the way they dress for the character. The simple answer is, no. Come as you are. Internalize the lines and the director will tell you which way to go with it from there.

We are looking forward to meeting everyone personally. Auditions are always full of positive energy and are a great deal of fun. We can’t wait.

Almost 300 Applications Narrowed To 30! – Auditions On Saturday August 16th
August 11, 2008

What an amazing response! Thank you, Seattle. The best and brightest sent in their resumes for a chance to be in Coffka. The Coffka team spent the last week going through all of the resumes that you sent in to pick the best of the best. There were many difficult decisions to make but, in the end, we picked all the people who had the best look and experience for the part.

We were completely stunned by the nearly 300 resumes and letters that we got over the last 3 weeks. We would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support for the project and its green goals.

Matt spent the afternoon on Saturday contacting everyone who made the first cut to tell them about the audition on Saturday. Each actor/actress will be receiving an email confirmation later today. Everyone he talked to was very excited that they would be getting a shot to audition for the movie.

In another week, there will only be 10 left. They will be your cast. We can not wait to reveal them to everyone!
